I Am the Body Blogosphere

I heard an interesting comment this week, and I want to know what you think.

Here’s the context: I was listening to a story about President-elect Obama (but he is not my focus for this querie). The upshot was that he might be adjusting his tax promises. The TV pundit said, “the blogosphere isn’t going to like it”.

That’s what I found so interesting.  The “blogosphere” is made up of millions of us. We are individuals from the right, left and middle of our respective countries. MILLIONS. And from all corners of the planet. And yet traditional media continually refers to us as one body: “The Blogosphere”.

Now look, I know what they are trying to say. When a lot of individual members of the blogosphere have a bee in their collective bonnets, they can have a big impact.  But somehow this cacophony of internet voices has been stirred into a blob, and often referred to as a blob with nafarious intentions.

My point is this: Blogging is as fabulous for its individual voice as it is for its collective power. Maybe more fabulous.

What do you think?
