Inviting Barack Obama to a Presentation Training Session

I know what you’re thinking. Barack Obama is one of the finest orators ever.  Why, then, do I recommend that he dedicate some time to presentation training?

images.jpgBecause public speaking is not only about scripted oratory. It is more than delivering an elegant and eloquent public address. In fact as President, Barack Obama will spend more time talking to the public in forums that are not scripted than he will delivering the big speech. He has held nearly a dozen press conferences since the election and, uh, they are, uh, starting to draw, uh, a lot of attention to, uh, something he, uh, really needs to, uh, work on.

President-elect Obama’s “uhs” are so pronouced that they detract from his message. I find myself tuning him out and counting the “uhs” , and then realizing that I can’t keep up.

It’s not uncommon.  I’ve worked with hundreds of executives who suffer the same condition. Slowing down and letting his brain callibrate with his mouth would help.  And there are several other tricks to ironing out those “uhs”.

I’m hoping he reads my blog.
